spring fever...waaaay to early!

Okay, I admit it. I have spring fever and its only mid-January. Not only do we have three months of cold blustery days ahead, but I know that when I get back to Boston I am going to really get hit hard with reality! Tacoma is soggy and soppy, yes, but its also sort of warm and rainy in a springier (wishful thinking) sort of way. So, I am trying to think of things I can do to cheer up the gloomy winter months ahead. Of course, going to the gym is a start, its always warm in exercise rooms, and with everyone running around in tanks and shorts its almost like stepping into a warmer climate. So, gym, check. I also love the colors of spring, soft bright hues against a slate grey sky...oooh! So, my next series of paintings are going to be studies of flowers. Beautiful, bright and luscious gardens, with water. I am obsessed with painting water right now, and can't wait to start a giant canvas. Here is one example of spring treats as my muse.

little memories

I don't know if I remember being here in these photographs, but I remember the feeling of being there. I know I was utterly happy and content with knowing I knew everything and nothing. I had coloring books and woods to play in. I had a pink hat and what a lucky girl I am to have such memories.

Where in the Woods?

Featuring new works by four Melbourne-based artists Richard Grigg, Siri Hayes, Amanda Marburg and Mark Rodda Where in the woods? explores how nature acts as an elemental substance within us and how we utilise these untamed aspects to exorcise our myths and our animalistic imaginings. Although this group of artists all have diverse practices and work in a variety of media from photography, painting, video and sculpture, there are many interesting points of convergence and a shared aim to foster a process which is based on exploring the pictorial history of an ‘imagined’ nature in art.

Where in the woods? seeks to objectify the sense of insecurity we sometimes feel when confronted with nature, referencing in turn the artists in history who have created works along these particular lines.

Art as perfectly as it can be understood.
